Softball: Glendale Split Vaquero Classic

The Glendale Vaqueros wrapped up their three game road trip with a doubleheader split with the Santa Barbara City Vaqueros from the Western State Conference Northern Division at Pershing Park. Winning the first game 8-6, before falling in the second 4-3 on a walk-off fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh inning.


Azusena Lopez sparked Glendale’s second four-run inning of the first game, in the fifth, with a two-rbi single to right field scoring Catarina Anzalone and pinch hitter Grace FitzRandolph. Olivia Ziebell-White finished with two doubles, one RBI and scored once. Lopez and Anzalone each finished with a game-high three hits to go with a combined four runs driven in. Jazmin Jaquez picked up her second win of the season in relief of the starter Annaliese Ruiz. Jaquez went 3.2 scoreless on 19 total pitches and 15 of which were strikes. Mimi Sanchez closed the door in the seventh by striking out the side, giving Sanchez her first Glendale save. Sanchez’s week of dominance in the circle continued in the second game of the doubleheader against Santa Barbara City. Sanchez pitched 6.2 innings striking out seven batters. Lopez collected three hits for the second straight game in the nightcap, finishing 6 for 8 on the afternoon. 


Glendale (7-1) will look to improve on their five game unbeaten streak at the Glendale Sports Complex on Saturday, February 7th as they host the Rams of Victor Valley in the first of three straight doubleheaders at home. First pitch for game one is at 12 pm with the second one to follow approximately 30 minutes after the first game. 


In other games across the 3C2A, Canyons move to 5-1 overall with a road crushing of the Oxnard Condors 18-2 in a five inning affair. Sophomore infielder Jeniece Jimenez finished with a team-high 4-for-4 to go with four runs driven in, tripled once and doubled twice. Jeniece since January 31st game against Grossmont is 12-of-12 with 12 runs scored. Azusena Lopez of GCC and Jeniece Jimenez of COC are putting up video games numbers in 14 combined games. Lopez and Jimenez 37-of-49 to go with 31 RBIs, 28 runs scored, seven triples, seven doubles and five homers.
